Monday
Labor Day. And we sure labored...all day, re-arranging rooms. ugh.
Tuesday
Today we finished up our sun unit. We made a sun dial and tracked the shadow made throughout the day, until a rain cloud moved in and foiled our plans.
We began the day with the song, "The Lord is my Light" and we talked about how Christ is the light of the world. We made a Venn diagram and talked about the similarities between the Sun and Jesus. That got their little brains moving.
They then continued with their regular math lessons, and then Lacee read to them while I tried to get Katelyn to sleep. She was being stubborn so I let her come down and watch "Milo and Otis" with the kids. Ok, I know, not terribly educational for Annabelle and Evan, but for Katelyn it was a great experience. She was so excited to see a little chick hatching from an egg, and all the happy little animals. Macy woke up from her nap to bark at the cat she saw on the screen. It was a hoot. After many failed attempts at trying to kill Milo she hunkered down for another nap.
Then we watched some videos about honeybees. They're pretty amazing little creatures. They use the sun as their guide, and use it's direction to communicate to other bees where food sources are. We talked about how Jesus can be our guide, and if we're following Him as best we can we'll be happy and we'll be directed to sources of joy...and sweetness. Here's their little writing assignments:
Evan's
Annabelle's
We then colored pictures of honey bees, and I had the kids roll them up and hide their pictures separately in the back yard. Then we pretended to be honey bees doing their little waggle dance in the direction of their picture. Then we would go look for it. They had a lot of fun with that.
Next we had lunch and talked about the food groups; and a random lesson in obedience...and God's wrath. I'm not even sure what sparked that, but Evan wanted to know if everyone who did bad things was going to be burned. I could see the wheels turning in his head as he remembered the ninja kick he did to Annabelle earlier. I explained that, yes, if people continue to make bad choices and do not repent or want to make good choices that they are more likely to be "toast." That worried Macy, as she has been a naughty doggie as of late. This is her acting out her future fate. I should have drawn a chalk line.
Anyways....We had a little math lesson where we made a sun shape and used grouping and counting by 5's and 10's to count all the units. I think there ended up being 173 or something like that.

Wednesday
Bad day! I had a horrible headache, and the kids were tired and not very cooperative.
We did manage to get through most of what I had planned in our math and language arts workbooks.
The highlight of the day was doing our Oreo phases of the moon. We read a book about why the moon changes.
Thursday
We had a much better day today! I think the kids were more rested and happy, and my headache was gone. I'm working on structuring the beginning of the day more with devotional, calendar, weather, pledge, and sound of the day. It really helps the day start off well, I feel. After that we read from "Wind in the Willows" and had a discussion about weather or not we'd choose to do something we didn't want to do, just because someone else wanted us to do it. Then we did our Math U See lesson. We then packed a lunch and headed down to the park to meet our homeschool friends. The kids had a fun time playing, while I chatted with awesome moms. Also a wasp stung me...little brat.We were all exhausted by the time we got home so we rested and watched a video.
We then took a journey to the moon and played with moon sand. The kids absolutely loved it. It was just flour, cornstarch, oil, and some sprinkles just for fun. It held it's shape well and was just fun to play around in. We talked about how the moon doesn't have an atmosphere so it is easily hit by rocks, leaving craters. The craters are never washed away or blown away because there is no water or wind on the moon.
We encountered an alien pictured on the right.
Friday
Today was our first teaching co-op. It was art class at our house today. We learned about the color wheel and then did Name Art. They also had a great time playing together during free play time.
The other moms are teaching Health & PE, Animal Science, and Math. I'm excited to see what they'll do.
